Weekday Closure of Mills Peak Trail for Vital Forest Restoration Work

SHARE NOW

Popular mountain biking trail in the Plumas National Forest will be closed during the week. Forest officials say a 2-mile section of the Mills Peak Trail in the Beckwourth RD is undergoing fuel reduction work necessitating the closure.

The trail will be closed from 6 a.m. Monday through 6 p.m. Friday until the work is completed. Officials are expecting work to be done by the end of the day Friday, October 18, as long as the weather cooperates.

Timber operators will make efforts to ensure the trail is clear on the weekends, but if you’re planning a trek on the trail you are urged to use caution. Officials say there is a detour you can take to avoid the work area found on detailed forest maps.

The fuel reduction and forest health restoration work occurring along the trail is part of the Mills Multiple Product Thinning Project- helping to protect the community of Graeagle and improve public safety in the area by reducing the risk of wildfire.

Beckwourth District Ranger Mike Rahe thanked the public for their patience during the project and expressed gratitude for the contractor’s efforts to keep the trail open on weekends, especially with the good fall weather.
