UPDATED FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Intermittent Closures Planned on State Route 139 for Susanville 139 Paving Project Starting on Monday, April 28, 2025, State Route 139 will be closed to traffic on weekdays, Monday through Friday, between Spring Ridge Road and the BLM Shooting Range (PM 6.7), from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. as part of the Susanville 139 Paving Project. During the one hour opening period, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., traffic control will be in effect. These closures are expected to last approximately 6-8 weeks. During nights and weekends, motorists should plan for one-way traffic control with a traffic signal, approximately 3 miles north of Spring Ridge Road, where concrete barrier rail is being replaced. Minimal delays are expected at this location. For the entirety of the project limits, from Chestnut Street to Hagata Road, motorists may experience up to 30-minute delays depending on operations. Please note that plans have been made to accommodate emergency vehicles needing to pass through the project limits during the above listed intermittent closure times. Motorists needing to travel through the closure area should plan ahead and leave early to ensure they arrive either prior to the closure or during the one hour opening time. The purpose of this project is to restore the roadway to a state of good repair so that State Route 139 will be in a condition that requires minimal maintenance. The project includes rehabilitating the roadway, replacing six curb ramps, upgrading guardrail, upgrading concrete barrier, widening shoulders in select locations, replacing/upgrading signage, a traffic signal and culverts. The project will also bring American with Disabilities Act (ADA) elements to current standards. This $13.8 million project includes 145 working days, all requiring traffic control. Most construction is expected to take place in the spring and summer as weather permits.
