Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Water Quality Program Weekly Cyanobacteria Activity Report for Pyramid Lake:
Harmful Algae Bloom Event, October 8, 2026 Update.
Since last week, there has been an increase in cyanobacteria abundance at the northeastern shoreline of the lake, near Hell’s Kitchen, and the western and southern shorelines. This increase is most significant at the south end, especially near Dago Bay. While cyanobacteria abundance is low near the Marina, Popcorn Rock and Blockhouse, a strong odor, abundant algae growth, and negatively impacted fish and wildlife were observed by Natural Resource employees.
During these conditions, we advise securing your pets and NOT allowing them to drink lake water. Bring your own water and avoid direct contact with bloom material.
The Water Quality Program will continue to monitor the bloom cycle and provide updates about its status, which can be found on the Tribe’s social media including Facebook or found posted at locations in the Nixon and Sutcliffe communities.
