Providing an update on prescribed burning operations on the Big Hill Project on the Plumas National Forest Beckwourth Ranger District.
During the early morning patrol, firefighters discovered a spot fire within an adjacent unit in the project area. The spot fire was contained before proceeding with ignitions on the unit identified for treatment today.
Firefighters are planning to start the test fire for today’s unit shortly and have adjusted the goal for today to approximately 30 acres.
Approximately 100 firefighters are working on prescribed burning operations today in the Big Hill Project area south of Sloat.
Predicted winds today are still within the prescription. The area being treated today is sheltered, so winds are not expected to be a concern on the ground and may improve smoke dispersal as it rises. Firefighters will be closely monitoring conditions throughout the day and adjusting ignitions as needed.
Smoke is not expected to impact communities, but there may be brief periods of haze in the area.
