As Labor Day weekend is here, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), and Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) are uniting for a Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) to ensure safe travels. This tri-state initiative begins at 6:01 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, and runs through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4.

With holiday festivities on the horizon, many are preparing for road trips. The CHP, and partners are committed to safeguarding everyone during this busy time, with a focus on identifying and apprehending those suspected of driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs or alcohol.

Last year’s Labor Day MEP saw CHP officers make over 900 DUI arrests and issue nearly 5,700 speeding citations. Tragically, 52 lives were lost in California road accidents. To avoid becoming a statistic, always designate a sober driver, use ride-share services, and buckle up.

Stay safe on the roads this holiday weekend.
