Tragic Accident on SR-32 Claims One Life as U-Haul Van Veers Off Road

A passenger in a U-Haul box truck was killed about 1:53 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 32.

The Tehama County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased man as Mark Sales, 30, of Bakersfield, California.

According to a statemen from the Susanville Highway Patrol, about 1:53 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, a white / orange U-Haul GMC Savana Box Van was traveling westbound on a straight portion of Highway 32 when he allowed the vehicle to travel off the right (north) edge of the roadway.  The vehicle descended an embankment and stuck a tree.

The front right passenger succumbed to his injuries at the scene, and it was determined he was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The unidentified 47-year-old driver from Victorville, California, was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.
