What started as a bid for APRA money from the city council, spearheaded by the Susanville Symphony, which became an outspoken voice encouraging the council to help purchase the failing Sierra Theater, whose doors will close this August if not sold, in an effort to create a home for the performing arts.
As talks stretched into hour-long conversations over the course of several city council meetings, support among the community grew for the idea of a performing arts center, and the initiative to make it a reality, did too.
In a showcase of what could be, the newly formed SPAC group hosted a live event Tuesday that provided information about what the community can expect from the Susanville Performing Arts Center. “SPAC strategy extends beyond local talent; it’s about attracting external acts too and enjoying something ever changing for date night or visiting family members or hanging out with friends or meeting new people. This isn’t just an investment; it’s a catalyst for economic growth and a megaphone on the maps for Susanville.”
Based on community feedback, the SPAC says their next steps will be to add the final touches to the group business plan and submit it to the city in hopes of getting it before the council in an upcoming meeting.
The SPAC encourages you to continue asking questions as the project’s support gains momentum.
