The challenges affecting the management of public rangelands will be up for discussion among the Members of the Modoc-Washoe Experimental Stewardship Program Steering Committee. The committee, part of the Experimental Stewardship Program program, encourages innovative management of public lands, focusing on the BLM’s Applegate Field Office and the Modoc National Forest lands in the Warner Mountain Ranger District.
The committee comprises various stakeholders with diverse backgrounds and interests, including livestock grazing permit holders, California and Nevada fish and wildlife departments, timber industry representatives, wild horse, and burro interests, and resource conservation districts, to name a few.
The meeting will begin with a field tour followed by an open-to-the-public session, which will cover various topics such as virtual fencing, a bear study in Warner Mountain, managing wild horses on public lands, reintroducing fire in South Warner Wilderness, and the Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act.
Members will provide updates, and reports will be presented by the Bureau of Land Management’s Applegate Field Office and the Modoc National Forest Warner Mountain Ranger District.
The field tour and meeting begin Wednesday and Thursday, June 28 and 29, in Cedarville.
The business meeting, open to the public, begins at 9 a.m. June 29, at the community church hall. There is a virtual Zoom option if you want to attend but cannot. The committee will hear public comments at 2:30 p.m.
