Stay Safe This Summer: Essential Water Safety Tips to Avoid Dangers

SHARE NOW
CAL FIRE has responded to multiple water rescues over the last couple of days. Several have resulted in deaths. As temperatures rise and more people head to rivers, lakes, and the ocean, it’s important to stay alert and prepared.
Reminder: The water in our rivers is moving very fast and remains extremely cold, even though outside temperatures are getting hotter and drier. This combination can quickly lead to dangerous situations like cold-water shock or being swept away by strong currents.
✅ Always swim with a buddy
✅ Wear a life jacket, especially in rivers or unfamiliar waters
✅ Stay alert to strong currents and cold water conditions
✅ Never mix alcohol and water activities
Enjoy the water — but do it safely. Your life may depend on it.
