The Spaulding and Lookout Volunteer Fire Departments have been awarded a 50,000 dollar grant from the Office of Traffic Safety. The funds will go towards new extraction equipment, often known as the Jaws of Life that allows first responders to get to people trapped inside a vehicle due to a collision. Lookout Fire Chief Allen Moore said the new equipment is lighter and easier to operate, and also said securing this grant funding is critical to small rural departments for needs such as these.
