Susanville’s Memorial Park is seeing the effects of warmer temperatures and a melting snowpack.
Paiute Creek runs through the back side of the park, typically trickling peacefully following years of drought. However, the waters have swollen over the weekend, flooding the banks nearly up to the bike path and flowing just feet under the bridge leading to Fort Roop. If visiting with young children, keep careful watch near the water. The concrete circle once used for ice skating in the 30s is also full, and the grass area around the back side of the park is also very saturated, with some parts having significant standing water.
Community Church hosted another clean-up day this Sunday at Memorial, and city crews were also helping clear winter debris to get the park back in shape for the welcoming spring days.
