Slide Occurs on SR70- Highway Closure Indefinite

Caltrans District 2 says State Route 70 is blocked within the closure.

Yet another rockslide has occurred, this one about 3 miles east of the Butte/Plumas County line. Crews report that a large rock and debris are blocking both highway lanes.

The SR70 closure has been in place for nearly two weeks following continuous slides near Clatrans blasting operations near the Shady Rest Area. Impactful winter weather has been battering the hillside, which cannot stop it from crumbling onto the roadway, preventing access. Officials say recent wildfires have taken away the stability of the hillside due to a lack of vegetation, resulting in much of the erosion.

Caltrans adds that you can expect the closure to remain in place indefinitely, as there is no estimated time for this slide to be cleared from the roadway.
