Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship (SBTS) has embarked on a comprehensive ground-truthing initiative over the last two weeks to establish a proposed 60-mile multi-use trail network within the Loyalton, Sierraville, and Little Truckee Summit region along Highway 89.
The endeavor, outlined in the Sierra Valley Recreation Plan, is made possible by a nearly $800,000 grant from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, awarded earlier this year. This project is a pivotal component of the expansive, nearly 600-mile signature multi-use trail scheme, known as the Connected Communities Project.
SBTS employees have meticulously scouted through forested terrain, sometimes navigating chest-high brush, resulting in identifying a 10-mile segment east of #sierrabrooks near #loyalton, named “Dragonfly Ridge” for its dragonfly population. The trail boasts spectacular views of the Sierra Valley, Sierra Buttes, and the snowcapped Mountlola, alongside dramatic volcanic rock formations, springs, and diverse flora, including juniper trees.
The trail will bring increased outdoor opportunities to Loyalton and Sierraville communities. SBTS is committed to ground truthing throughout the fall season.
