Region’s Skies Turn Hazy from Out-Of-Area Fires

SHARE NOW

Do not be alarmed; hazy skies are expected as a weather system drifts smoke into the region from fires burning to the North. There are no active local fires in Lassen, Modoc, or Plumas counties.

The smoke you see and may smell is coming from Oregon, and fires are burning to the west. Notably, in the Six Rivers National Forest, the Smith River Complex is burning nearly 74,000 acres with minimal containment, and the Happy Camp Fire in the Klamath National Forest is at over 22,000 acres and almost a third contained.

Smoke impacts are expected to intensify into the day. As of this morning, air quality is at a moderate level. Susceptible people are advised to keep outdoor activity light and short and move indoors if they experience symptoms. Air quality is expected to improve tomorrow as showers return into the forecast.
