The county’s American Red Cross is feeling the struggle to fulfill the needs of those seeking assistance, as there are only two volunteers for the entire county.
Dwayne Taffe, a volunteer for the local Red Cross, says the non-profit desperately needs more volunteers, adding there is much more to the organization than simply taking donations. The Red Cross has volunteers involved in Disaster Action Teams who come to the aid of those experiencing total loss as a result of an emergency; including securing temporary housing and recovering lost documentation. Ed Harris, a red cross volunteer, adds not all work volunteers do is hard, such as during wildfire season, volunteers are needed in emergency shelters, in warehouses, and as researchers to help locate lost or separated family members. As a volunteer, you also set your hours and work as much or as little as possible, with educational courses available for training.
