Soroptimist International of Quincy announces that members honored Soropti-student Jake Thackeray at their February lunch meeting. Thackeray is one of six seniors selected by Quincy Junior-Senior High School for his outstanding leadership, academics, community service and activities.
Thackeray has volunteered in community service projects through the school’s S-Club and recently helped set up community events such as the Groundhog Fever Festival and Feather River College’s Dancing with the Stars. He is also a member of the California Scholarship Federation and has led and planned multiple academic game nights.
Thackeray is this year’s associated student body vice president. He commented, “I have planned multiple events such as the cornhole tournament and a campfire. I enjoyed this as it put me outside my comfort zone and forced me to grow. I learned that I really enjoy helping people out and planning events.”
During all four years of high school, Thackeray has played baseball, basketball and football. He has been named California Interscholastic Federation all-conference and team most valuable player in all three sports. For his senior project, Thackeray replaced broken locker doors in the varsity locker room. He explained, “This project taught me to weld and the manufacturing process. I enjoyed it as I learned lots of new skills and lessons.”
