At its monthly meeting on November 13, held at Greenville High School, the Plumas County Office of Education and Plumas Unified School District (PUSD) approved key decisions, including the appointment of a new interim superintendent and a salary increase for classified employees.

Jim Frost, a seasoned educator from Arnold in Calaveras County, has been named interim superintendent for the school district. Frost fills the vacancy left by former Superintendent William Roderick, who resigned on October 1 following his placement on paid administrative leave by the school board on September 11.

Roderick’s resignation came after a tumultuous period following his administrative leave, which stemmed from labor negotiations and salary discussions. The board has refrained from detailing the reasons behind his departure, citing privacy concerns and ongoing matters.

Assistant Superintendent Melissa Leal, who has served as acting superintendent since Roderick’s leave, will continue in her role part-time, overseeing district operations on Mondays and Fridays. Frost will serve as interim superintendent weekly from Tuesday through Thursday.

The school board has not yet appointed a county superintendent to replace Roderick, leaving that position temporarily unfilled.

The dual-leadership arrangement between Frost and Leal reflects the district’s effort to maintain operational continuity while navigating the leadership transition. Frost brings extensive experience from his previous roles in education, ensuring stability during this period.
