NWS Issues Red Flag Warning

A red flag warning is in place spanning across Northeast California and Northwest Nevada. The warning is in effect from 2 pm this afternoon through Thursday. The National Weather Service is predicting abundant lightning on dry fuels with possible strikes increasing the chance of a new fire starting. Strong wind gusts from storms of up to 45 mph are also expected and could cause any new fire starts to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them. Thursday’s thunderstorms are expected to have more rainfall yet the concentration of the rain will likely miss the Susanville area and fall over NW Nevada. During this red flag warning, you should avoid outdoor activities that can cause a spark near the dry ground, such as yard work, target shooting, or campfires. By Friday storms are looking to diminish and the weekend weather should return back to seasonal norms.
