New School Year Calendars Coming for the PUSD

The school year may look very different for Plumas unified schools come next fall; the board is set to determine the next two years’ academic calendars this evening. That decision will be made at 4 pm as the county office of ed sits down with the school district for a regular monthly meeting in Quincy.

The district surveyed parents, families, and staff with three potential start dates ranging from mid-August to the first week of September, a new Christmas break from December 22nd to January 5th, and a full week off in February. The results yielded varying responses from families versus staff, and based on those answers, two calendars were drafted and will be presented to the board. Those calendars propose a traditional start date of August 23rd with a week off in February, favored by staff, and an August 28th start with a 4-day weekend in February, favored by families.

The Administration is recommending a start date of August 23rd, with the day after Halloween being a professional learning day with no student attendance, a week off for Thanksgiving, Christmas break beginning on December 22nd, a full week off in February, and a week off in April. The last day of school on both calendars is set as June 14th. The calendars would be chosen for the next two school years to offer Expanded Learning programming at the elementary level for three days of the February break.

The December 14th meeting is scheduled at 4 pm in the district office at 50 Church Street in Quincy. You can find the agenda at the county office of ed and unified school districts website.
