Modoc NF Launches Discounted Personal Fuelwood Permit Program

SHARE NOW

The Modoc National Forest is set to launch a special program to offer discounted rates on personal firewood-cutting permits starting on May 15. Each permit, with a minimum purchase of $20, is priced at $2 per cord, with a limit of 10 cords per permit.

You can get a permit with photo identification from the Modoc Forest Headquarters in Alturas. You must carry your permit and a wood-cutting map to remove wood from the forest, and you will need to bring your own saw and fire extinguisher. Commercial machinery or vehicles larger than a pickup truck are not allowed.

The Modoc National Forest’s fuelwood gathering program is intended to provide the community with fuelwood while reducing fuel-loading in the forest and minimizing the risk of catastrophic wildfires.
