LMUD Considers Rate Increase, Holds Public Hearing

Tuesday, Lassen Municipal Utility District will hold a public hearing to consider raising rates once more. The utility has found itself under-collecting due to increases to power purchase costs. The increase has been the result of natural gas prices soaring. General manager Pat Holley has said LMUD and other utilities are urging action through the legislature to see some relief in the Natural gas crisis.

The board had approved two rate increases within two months at the end of last year, raising what you pay per kilowatt hour from 14.5 cents to 16. In February, another half-cent increase was approved, where a second public hearing was also set to determine the next possible adjustment.

That hearing will be held this Tuesday, March 28th, at 5:30. Holley stated data received through the last month could alter the remaining balance of LMUD’s under-collection, estimated to be 7/10th of a cent.

The board meets at 65 South Ropp Street in Susanville; you can find the board’s full agenda at LMUD.org.
