Lightning has caused two fires to spark in the Lassen National Forest. These fires are currently designated as H-1 Fire in the Thousand Lakes Wilderness & L-1 Fire on the Almanor Ranger District near Philbrook Reservoir in Butte county.

The H-1 Fire is a 10th acre. The forest service says the fire is 100% contained and controlled.

The L-1 Fire doubled in size to 8 acres, yet authorities say it has now been 100% contained.

Last night ground resources responded with Six engines, one hand crew and two water tenders. CAL FIRE assisted and additional support from their Night-flying helicopter.

Lassen Ntl Forest Information Officer Amber Marshall says, “today, crews will reinforce line by mopping up hot spots within the containment areas. Personnel will perform recon flights over the Lassen National Forest to see current conditions and look for any new starts.”

Concerns remain as thunderstorms are expected to continue through the month, bringing additional wildfire threats.

You are cautioned through these weather conditions to avoid working with tools that can spark fires, maintain your vehicle and tow safely. Dragging chains can cause sparks, and parking a hot engine on dry fuels, like tall grass, can cause a wildfire to start. If recreating on forestlands never leave your campfire or grill unattended and completely extinguish your fire before leaving your site by drowning the flames or warm coals with water, and repeating after stirring to ensure it is completely out and cool to the touch.
