June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness

Plumas Bank is teaming up with Independent Community Bankers of America for World Elder Abuse Awareness on June 15th. Older Americans lose up to 3 billion a year due to fraud scams.

According to the United States Senate Special Committee of Aging, the average victim of elder financial loss of $120,000 could occur in just a month. The scams consist of one pretending to be a distressed family member and needing money to borrow.

Plumas Bank and ICBA suggest securing your private information, such as IDs, Passports, Account numbers, Social Security cards, and birth certificates, in a secure vault or safe. Regularly check your bank accounts and billing statements, Never disclose personal information to a company or organization asking for wired funding.
