A decision has been made in the Case of the City of Susanville versus the California Department of Dorrections and the state of California on the closing of the California Correctional Center, CCC. Judge Moody in a tentative order has decided to appoint Harvey Leiderman as the case’s special master. Judge Moody says the special master in this case will not be making decisions, but will be researching and advising the judge to help him make the decisions in the case. The move was made based on the complications of the case given CEQA and Penal codes are involved. The special masters appointed has been drawn out since Moody’s first introduction of the idea in February to which CDCR and the state were not in agreement with. This is a win for the City of Susanville as Leiderman’s appointment will bring more transparency to the case. A hearing will be held on May 6th at the Lassen Superior Courthouse via zoom for the demurer plea by the state and CDCR that aims to dismiss the case. The hearing will begin at 10am.
