Honeylake Valley Recreational Board addresses Shoulder Season.
The Honeylake Valley Recreational Authority Board held a meeting on Thursday, June 20th, with concerns addressed by the public concerning Shoulder season. Due to the rising cost from inflation to operate the pool, the HLVRA has been considering options on how to fund the shoulder season and keep it open to serve the high school swim team.
The community pool is funded through City and County funds at around 80,000 each totaling 160,000 a year to fund the pool. This funding is expected to be nonexistent by the year 2028. Superintendent Chris Gallagher expressed to the community in attendance that with the funding expected to go away, someone should be looking into grant writing or placing it on the ballot to keep funding for the pool to stay open. These procedures must be established two years before the 2028 year to secure the funds properly.
Public Works Director Bob Godman spoke of the Pool Board and the Lassen High School swim team working on a three-year contract budgeting around 5500 per year for the Volcanos Swim Team to carry through the Shoulder Season. The Board also has agreements with other schools supporting swimming packages for their students.
The Honey Lake Pool Board shared that the first Teen Swim Night successfully hosted around 150 teens.
