After Hilary passed through, the storm system significantly increased the state’s August rainfall.
Unprecedented amounts were observed stretching from Southern California to the Southern Sierra, encompassing Sierra County. According to data from the National Weather Service, precipitation surged up to 8 inches beyond the monthly average up to this point.
While the Northern Sierras and the North State also experienced effects from the remnants of Hilary, the impact was less severe compared to Southern California. In Lassen County, the situation varied greatly. The majority of the county received typical rainfall totals for the month. However, several areas to the west of the county saw precipitation levels nearing 130% of the average.
Hilary has made history marked as the first tropical storm to land in the state in 84 years.
