The snow survey results for the Modoc National Forest, as well as the broader Northern California region, indicate that levels are significantly below average. Blue Lake received 5 inches of snow, representing 23% of typical water content for this time of year. Last year, the area had a snow depth of 16.5 inches with a water content of 86%. Cedar Pass received 8 inches of snow, representing 18% of the typical water content for this time of year. Last year, the snow depth was 30 inches, with a water content of 107%. Adin Mountain received 11.5 inches of snow, representing 28% of the typical water content for this time of year. Last year, the snow depth was 30 inches, with a water content of 123%. A warmer winter has meant many precipitation events hit the area as rain rather than snow, resulting in a poor early-season snowpack for higher elevations like the Modoc National Forest.
