High Desert State Prison releases an update on the burst steam pipe that severely injured an engineer and inmate.

The stationary engineer and two inmate workers were replacing the hot water pump for one of the dining halls when the shut-off valve burst. With a quick response, one of the inmate workers could call an alarm. One inmate was able to be treated at the prison for his injuries. At the same time, the other two sustained serious burns and other bodily injuries and were taken to an out-of-the-area hospital, where reports say they are in critical but stable condition.
