Students were disrupted once more at Diamond View Middle School for a second day in a row, the latest over the smell of gas.
Just before 9 am yesterday, students and faculty were evacuated from campus as Susanville fire and the public works team arrived to investigate.
All of the school’s heating systems and supply lines were checked, and it was determined there were no leaks, and all systems were operating normally. Students and staff could return safely to school to continue the day.
Officials say an inversion layer can sometimes cause odors to be pushed down to ground level.
The smell of sulfur or rotten eggs comes from a harmless chemical that is infused into natural gas to help identify when there is a leak and alert you to get you to a safe distance before calling the authorities.
