On March 21, the Friends of Plumas Wilderness held a community meeting to discuss a proposal to declare the Middle Fork of the Feather River a National Monument. The designation would cover not only the Middle Fork but also other areas throughout Plumas County. A management plan would be established for undeveloped land, remaining in effect until the National Monument designation is proclaimed.

The project aims to protect 400,000 acres of wildlands and 100 miles of wild rivers within the overview of the watershed in Plumas County, including federal lands and existing designations, and 100 miles of wild rivers in the Feather River watershed by 2030. The Friends of Plumas Wilderness hopes to include the Feather River Canyon in the Antiquities Act of 1906, declaring to preserve federal lands and historical sites.

This act will prevent future industrial production, and if passed, grant funding can be obtained to maintain and increase access to the forest.
