If you plan to see Emerald Bay State Park, you may hold off until summertime. Park officials say the park has been declared unsafe from extreme weather conditions over the past few months. The State Park, declared a National Landmark in 1969, last froze over 30 years ago and has now once more frozen over due to extreme continuous low temperatures. With the weather expected to hit single digits by this Wednesday into Thursday and two more storms coming in, more flooding is also expected to create dangerous road conditions. Park officials are observing evidence of avalanche activity and several downed trees in the area. Visitors are being warned not to sightsee due to the ice not being thick enough for people to walk on, only being 6 inches thick.
Temperatures are expected to warm back up, and park officials say they do not expect the ice coating to stick around much longer.
