Feather River College announces that student Jacob Burke passed away May 10 at Oakland Camp while swimming with his family and friends.

FRC sends condolences to his family and friends, especially those who were present during the tragedy, said Superintendent/President Kevin Trutna. Other FRC students were in the area as well, and some are staying with community members as they cope with the situation.

A freshman at FRC, Burke was a top competitor on the rodeo team, winning the bull riding competition at a recent California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo  Rodeo en route to a Top 5 regional bull riding ranking. His friendship ran deep through the rodeo team and friends, said Trutna.

The college asks that anyone needing to speak with a professional — along with anyone who notices someone who needs help — contact the Mental Health & Wellness Center, where staff and telehealth options are available to assist in any way possible.
