On April 14, 2026, at approximately 9:18 a.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a serious vehicle crash on State Route 36 near Hillcrest Road in Susanville. Upon arrival, officers found a single vehicle involved in a major collision.
Investigation revealed that the driver, identified as 76 year old male (pending confirmation), was operating a 2022 Aura eastbound on SR-36 at an unknown speed. For reasons yet to be determined, the driver allowed the vehicle to leave the south edge of the roadway. The vehicle became airborne, crashed into a large pile of rocks, overturned, and ultimately came to rest on Hillcrest Road.
Emergency responders provided medical care at the scene before transporting driver to Banner Lassen Medical Center. Due to the severity of the injuries, Party-1 was then airlifted to Renown Hospital in Reno, Nevada. Unfortunately, on April 15, 2026, the driver succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact Susanville CHP at (530) 252-1800.
