The Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship has made significant progress over the summer on the Lost Sierra Route, part of the Connected Communities Project. This comprehensive trail plan spans the northern and southern boundaries of the connected communities area, aiming to establish a continuous 370-mile singletrack trail from Susanville to Olancha in Southern California.
Additionally, attention has been drawn to a proposed backcountry trail from Donner to Mammoth Lakes, CA, which is primarily dirt and singletrack, though not fully accessible yet. Efforts continue to uncover more singletrack routes.
Meanwhile, the Towns to Trails project is facilitating stakeholder meetings to create connections from Markleeville south of Lake Tahoe to Olancha.
On a larger scale, another non-profit collective is working towards a 5,000-mile backcountry trail extending from Canada to Cabo. The launch of the first sections of this trail route is anticipated for this fall, with close collaboration between SBTS and planners to map and identify the route through the Lost Sierra region.
