Early Cold Snap Sweeps Through Region

SHARE NOW

Northeastern California and Western Nevada are bracing for the first freeze warning of the season, as temperatures are expected to drop dramatically Thursday night into early Friday morning. According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno, a series of cold fronts will sweep through the region, bringing widespread freezes with temperatures plummeting between 14 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit.

The NWS has issued a Freeze Watch for parts of Western Nevada and Northeastern California, urging you to prepare for the unseasonably cold weather. In addition to the freezing temperatures, light snow showers are forecasted for mountainous and foothill areas, with snow levels potentially dipping as low as 5,000 feet.

This early-season cold snap marks a shift in weather patterns and serves as a reminder to protect sensitive plants, outdoor plumbing, and prepare for potentially hazardous driving conditions in areas that may see snow accumulation.
