As major road repair work is underway along Highway 70, drivers are all too familiar with the lines of traffic ahead due to the multiple one-way traffic controls in place. Yesterday, Quincy CHP said one of those traffic lines near Camp Laymen Road turned into the scene of an accident when a truck collided with a semi waiting in the line.

Around 12:30 a 45-year-old man only identified by his last name Akridge was driving his Dodge Ram with the cruise control on set at 55mph. A 27-year-old from Greenville, Fredrickson, was stopped in traffic in a Peterbilt semi.

The driver of the pickup, Akridege, told officers he was drowsy and fell asleep as he approached the backup traffic, unable to stop he crashed into the rear of the Peterbilt.

Akridge sustained major injuries from the collision, while Fredrickson was unharmed.
