Deck the Hall, Christmas Tree Cutting Permits Available Next Week

Many take part in the tradition of venturing into the forests to hunt for their Christmas tree during the holiday season. The national forests will have Permits for tree hunting available for purchase starting on November 1

The Lassen National Forest says the experience is sure to offer a memorable experience with the family, whether it has been your longstanding tradition or the start of one.
Forest officials add that by cutting your tree, you are also helping to improve forest health. The permit system helps to thin densely populated stands of small-diameter trees. Removing these trees in designated areas helps other trees grow larger and can open spaces that provide food for wildlife.
Christmas tree-cutting permits go on sale from November 1, 2023, through December 22, 2023. You may purchase a permit through the mail, at any of our district offices and Supervisor’s Office during regular business hours, or from one of these local vendors:

Permits are $10.00 each, with a maximum of two permits per household. Mail order forms must be received no later than December 9, 2023, for processing.
Though tree cutting is permitted through December 25, we recommend cutting early in the season before higher elevations become snowbound.
