Contamination Found in Loyalton Water

A bacterial test following Loyalton’s water main leak repairs has returned positive.

Since October 4th the town has been placed on a boil-water notice pending testing. The city’s water was shut off intermittently throughout much of last week between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm to make repairs to the water main. For several weeks a leak in the line has dumped thousands of gallons of water into the ground. Contractors were finally brought out last Monday to begin to make repairs.

Now the town must continue to boil water or drink bottled water for another week. The City of Loyalton and Sierra County Health Department are expecting new results by October 17th.

If you are in need of water you can bring up to a 5-gallon clean water container to Loyalton Elementary School or  Eastern Plumas Skilled Nursing Facility, where you can fill your containers up with potable water.

Not boiling your water before use could lead to intestinal illness. If unable to boil your water you can visit the CDC website for alternative methods.
