Groundwater sustainability efforts in the Big Valley Basin are advancing, and a public meeting on December 2, 2024, in Bieber, offers an opportunity to learn about key updates and future plans.
The Big Valley Groundwater Basin Advisory Committee (BVAC) will discuss the water budget tool, basin boundary modifications, and progress on implementing the Big Valley Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP). Since its revision in April 2024, the Lassen and Modoc Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) have been using grant funding to execute key recommendations from the plan.
The Big Valley Basin, spanning Lassen and Modoc Counties, is essential for local water resources, supporting communities, agriculture, and ecosystems. The BVAC advises the GSAs in managing the basin responsibly under California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), which requires long-term plans for groundwater sustainability.
Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more and participate in the discussion. For additional details or to join the BVAC’s interested parties list, contact the Lassen or Modoc GSAs.
