City to Hear Findings from Professor’s Study on Prison Closure

A professor who studied the impacts of the closure of the California Correctional Center, CCC, will share his findings with the city. In June of last year, the City Council showed support for research to be conducted regarding the effects of prison closures on rural communities, as the city felt CCC closing may have a future impact on operating revenues. Yet, the city says to date, “there have been no noticeable decreases in revenues or short-term revenue projections.” Professor John Eason and his team have concluded the research and will present the study’s findings and share recommendations regarding how to close a prison responsibly.

The council meets this Wednesday, May 17th, at 5 pm in City Hall.
