A serious crash happened on US-395, just south of Doyle, around 2:45 pm on Sunday, May 17, 2026. Johnney Mixon, 84 of Reno, was driving a 2025 Subaru southbound and tried to pass a slower truck tractor by moving into the northbound lane.
His car hit a motorcyclist, from Snohomish, Washington, traveling northbound. The impact threw the rider from the motorcycle. The rider suffered major injuries and died at the scene.
The Subaru then went off the west side of the road and caught fire. People nearby stopped to help the Mixon’s escape from their Subaru. Emergency services took those occupants to Renown Medical Center in Reno by ground ambulance.
Authorities closed the highway to handle the emergency and clean up the crash site. Traffic was redirected onto Constantia Road. By 8:00 pm, fire crews finished putting out the fire, and one-way traffic control was set up on US-395.
