The City of Susanville announces the arrival of the long-awaited electric All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), a critical component of the city’s comprehensive strategy to tackle homelessness along the Susan River Trail. In a collaborative effort with the Lassen Municipal Utility District (LMUD), the city successfully acquired the $35,000 Polaris Ranger EV.
The City Council, recognizing the importance of addressing homelessness, established it as one of its top priorities. A pivotal aspect of this initiative was creating a dedicated budget to monitor homeless encampments throughout the city and conducting encampment closures. Over the past year, city staff have diligently allocated resources to fulfill this mission, utilizing designated funds for staff hours, equipment, supplies, and the establishment of the Volunteer Susan River Patrol Program.
Continuing their commitment to supporting these crucial efforts, city staff engaged in productive discussions with LMUD to explore potential projects within the LMUD Public Benefits Community Projects program. Through these discussions, it became evident that the acquisition of an electric all-terrain utility vehicle was practical and could be primarily designated for the Volunteer Susan River Patrol Program under the supervision of the Susanville police department.
This addition to Susanville’s arsenal aims to significantly enhance its ability to address homelessness in the community and improve the Susan River Trail.
