This Wednesday, Susanville’s city council will review the breakdown of how the remaining $2.65 million in ARPA funds will be spent. After extensive deliberation, numerous hour-long discussions, creating a rating rubric for proposed projects, and gathering community input, seven categories have been selected for allocation.
The proposed expenditure plan is as follows:
– $1 million to be earmarked for the Performing Arts Center at the Sierra Theatre. The city emphasizes that investing in this center could rejuvenate the cultural landscape, provide diverse programming for residents, and attract visitors.
– Nearly $160,000 to be allocated to a marketing campaign for Susanville.
– Another $200,000 to complete the City’s General Plan Update. The city contends that this strategic move can enhance economic prosperity by fostering job creation and diverse business growth by aligning policies with current economic realities, attracting investment, and streamlining processes. Using ARPA funds for this update ensures relevance and responsiveness to current needs and priorities.
– A substantial portion of the funds, totaling $520,000, is proposed for city building infrastructure repairs. This includes replacing the fire hall’s broken heating system and fixing its roof. An additional $250,000 is allotted for Police Department interior/exterior roof repairs, and $75,000 is designated for City Hall interior repairs caused by leaking roofs.
– The final balance will be utilized to pay off city debt, amounting to just over $447,000.
The city council will convene to discuss the expenditure of the $2.65 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds at 5 pm in city hall on Wednesday, March 6th. The agenda and details on this item can be found on the city’s website.
