The City of Susanville moves forward with a Volunteer Program to address the communities concerns around the Susan River Trail Walk. City Administrator Dan Newton says the city has recognized there is crime and blight around the trail, and the council is making it their priority to improve.
The volunteer River Patrol program, devised over a year ago, aims to make the Riverwalk safer and create a stronger presence along the river to stave off homeless encampments. Chief of Police Ryan Cochran says four volunteers are already in the process who will report on activity along the walk, including tent encampments, trash, graffiti, and violence. Cochran says anyone interested can visit the department to undergo the process of becoming a volunteer. This will include a background check, fingerprints, reference checks, and in-class training on expectations.
Volunteers will have use of the utility vehicle purchased for this program at a price tag of 35k dollars, radio equipment, and the city sees click fix app, reporting all activity to the departments on duty Sargeant.
