City to Hold Special Meeting to Fill Newly Created Economic Development Director Position

The Susanville city council will convene in a special meeting under a closed session to discuss hiring an Economic Development Director.

The council is expected to announce if any action was taken following the closed session when City Hall will open back up to the community.

The position, which caused some contention among community members and the council, was approved earlier this year. The nearly 130k salaried position was funded under a partnership with the Susanville Indian Rancheria to benefit both groups in the city’s economic growth.

The Economic Development Director, According to the job description, will develop, manage, and market Susanville’s Economic Development Implementation Plan and will be responsible for formulating recommendations, the plan’s objectives and work plan, and conducting outreach with the business community.”

Among the economic development director’s duties, the incumbent will “Attend meetings of the City Council and SIR Tribal Business Council and other public gatherings.
The director will advise the City and Tribal Administrator and present facts, information, and recommendations to them.”

The council hoped to fill the position within months of flying the role or be forced into an alternative plan.

The council meets Monday, August 21st, at 9 am.
