As the Labor Day holiday approaches, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is ramping up efforts to ensure road safety with a statewide Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP). The MEP will begin at 6:01 p.m. on Friday, August 30, and will continue through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 2.

During this period, all available CHP officers will be on patrol across California, focusing on encouraging safe driving habits and assisting motorists in need. The increased law enforcement presence aims to reduce traffic accidents, particularly those involving impaired driving.

The CHP urges drivers to take precautions by designating a sober driver or using public transportation if they plan to consume alcohol. Additionally, if you spot a driver who appears to be impaired, call 9-1-1 immediately. Be ready to provide the dispatcher with crucial details, such as the vehicle’s license plate number, location, and direction of travel. Your vigilance could help prevent a tragedy.

The Labor Day weekend is known for increased travel and celebrations, and the CHP is committed to making it safer for everyone on the road.

You are encouraged to designate a sober driver, and report impaired drivers to 9-1-1.
