Booths selling Safe n Sane fireworks have opened to help you celebrate Independence Day throughout town, though you’ll need to ensure you’re celebrating responsibly to avoid fines.
Susanville fire department shares Safe n Sane’s are legal within Susanville City Limits, but not within Lassen County.
Fireworks are also completely illegal on national forest lands and throughout all of Plumas County.
State fines start at 500 dollars and soar to 50,000 for violations, while the use of illegal fireworks in the city carries an initial fine of 1000.
Assistant Fire Chief Hernandez shares a few safety tips to follow after you set off your legal, safe n sane fireworks:
- Have a 5-gallon bucket filled with water to dispose of spent fireworks
- Make sure all fireworks are completely cooled before dumping them into your trash can
- Keep disposed of fireworks and firework disposal buckets away from your home to avoid catching it on fire
Starting this year, there will also be several parking lots closed to firework use, where you could once set them off at. Security will be on the scene to prohibit use.
From the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection data, Since 2013, throughout the State, there have been over 20,000 acres burned with fireworks, totaling nearly 60 million in property loss, a third oh which was incurred last year alone.
