Starting on Saturday November 6h, 2026, CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit in coordination with Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) will be conducting a 95-acre prescribed burm project in the Service Gulch area. The project area is in western Modoc County and will be visible along County Road 91.
This project is working with SPI to reduce fuel loading on private timberlands. The prescribed burn will be initiated if/when conditions are favorable. Smoke will be visible throughout the Big Valley area. The communities of Lookout, Bieber, Nubieber and Adin will see smoke in the area. There is no need to report to 911.
The purpose of the project is to provide fuels treatment by reducing fuel loading, improve wildlife habitat, reduce noxious weeds, and to prevent the possibility of a fire burning on to private and public lands.
