CalFIRE’s Lassen-Modoc Unit is requiring for those gearing up to burn on residential property within the Lassen, Modoc, and Plumas counties to have a burn permit.
The permits are free of charge online after watching an educational video on their website and submitting an application. Permits must be printed, signed, and on hand to be available for inspection in an electronic format upon request. The permittee must have a safe debris burn and minimize fire escapes. Permits are valid from May 1st through April 30, 2024. You may only burn on allowed days and hours that the local Air Pollution Control District determines. The permit does not cover burn escapes and holds you responsible if an uncontrolled burn pile escapes, do call 911 in this event. Conditions of burn days may change due to weather.
You can check on the burn status by visiting the Air Pollution Control District website or burnpermit.fire.ca.gov.
