On September 28-29, 2026, CAL FIRE Lassen-Modoc Unit will assist with a 450- acre prescribed burn in the Muck Valley area of Lassen County. The project area is located along Highway 299 and Muck Valley Road.
Residents and visitors in the Big Valley and Fall River Valley areas may see or smell smoke during the prescribed burn. Smoke may be visible from surrounding communities and roadways. There is no need to call 9-1-1 to report smoke associated with this prescribed burn.
The objectives of the project are to: Improve rangeland health and condition. Reduce noxious weeds. Reduce hazardous vegetation and fuel.
Help prevent future wildfires from burning toward and threatening the surrounding communities.
Prescribed burns are an important tool for reducing hazardous fuels and improving land
health while helping communities prepare for future wildfire threats.
